Girl Snowboarding

Scratch that Itch – Part Two

Now that the doldrums of winter are starting to set in, I’m sure your mind has begun to race. “How and when can I get away?!” Never fear! These day trips are just the thing to keep you going:

WINTER

Skiing/Snowboarding:

Unfortunately, for us New Yorkers, snow storms tend to be gross, annoying inconveniences that often leave us stranded and make our food deliveries come way later than they promised us. This season, make the most of the powder and go for a day trip to go skiing at a nearby resort. Patagonia and Urban Sherpa both offer really amazing deals ($80 for transportation, breakfast, & a one-day ski pass!) to get you out of the city and hit the slopes nearby. Or, if it isn’t snowing (hello 2012!), choose a day trip to Vermont (yes, I said DAY trip and VERMONT in one sentence) – for less than $100 you can get there and back and not have to worry about transportation. Bonus – bus rides tend to be makeshift parties.

Snow Tubing:

Okay so you don’t ski/snowboard? Don’t worry I won’t judge (okay maybe a little). Opt instead to go Tubing/Dinner/Drinking. LivingSocial offers a pretty great deal that includes an all you eat buffet, transportation, drinks etc. for $130!

SPRING:

Biking outside Manhattan:

Spring is in the air and it’s time to get out. No seriously – get out, and go biking! Rent a bike for a day (all over Manhattan, just google it), go across the Hudson River, and soak in the first warm air. Click here for a site gives some great trails to hit up:

Watch an Auto Race:

Did you know just an hour and a half from the city lies a great race track? Definitely day-tripable if you rent a car…check out Lime Rock’s site to get the schedule, along with travel information.

So there you go! When the time comes where the City is driving you insane, these quick and easy day-trips will keep you going!
